The IT department recently made the decision to migrate all City of Miami computers and laptops to the latest version of Windows 7. This updated Windows software provides built-in power saving features, which not only will save the city money but also promote and contribute to a more energy efficient workplace. In order to effectively implement this change, policies were created that set a pre-determined period of inactivity before a computer was automatically sent into “sleep mode”.
The City estimates they will save more than two hundred and fifty thousand dollars on their annual energy costs. In addition this switch will prevent approximately nine-hundred and sixty tons of CO2 emissions from being released into the atmosphere.
